Biographical note

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
– He has a degree in History from the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto; and a post-graduate degree in History from the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto.
Graduated with the Librarian-Archivist Course, by the University of Coimbra
(1974); received an award from Fundação Eng.° António de Almeida, as the best student
classified at FLUP, in the academic year 1973/74
– In 1974, he took the exams for his degree thesis on the subject: Coimbra Romanesque Art. New data, new hypotheses
– Between 1971 and 1981 he worked, as a senior technician, at the Municipal Public Library of Porto; since then, until 2010, he managed the Historical Archive and the Municipal Department of Archives of CMP; in these functions, he managed to obtain for this municipal service the Quality Management certification and, in 2008, the National Award for Good Practices in Local Administration (Category A)

He was the scientific advisor for Porto’s application for World Cultural Heritage; and curated multiple exhibitions, for example, for the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England, for the VIII Ibero-American Summit, for the centennial celebrations of the Birth of Prince Henry the Navigator, the Inauguration of the Luís I Bridge, the Siege of Porto, the French Invasions, etc.
-Already a student, he participated in the Luso-French excavations of Conimbriga and in excavations at Bracara Augusta and at the archaeological site of Falperra
-He conducted archaeological excavations at the Pousada de Sª Marinha da Costa (Guimarães), at the cave hermitage of Sabariz (Viana do Castelo) and at the church of Lagares (Penafiel)
-Directed excavations on the hill of the Cathedral of Oporto, which allowed, for the first time, to scientifically evaluate the antiquity of the settlement of the historic center of the city; also directed the archaeological research in the Castle of Foz, making known the medieval church of S. João da Foz do Douro; and coordinated the research project of Casa do Infante
-Between 2016 and 2019 he directed a scientific project, approved by the Ministry of Culture, about the ancient Terra de Lafões
-Between 1988 and 2005 he was a guest lecturer in Documentary Science at the Faculty of Arts, University of Porto
-It is part of two research centers: CITCEM (Research Center
Transdisciplinary “Culture, Space and Memory” of the University of Porto); and the IEM
(Institute of Medieval Studies, New University of Lisbon). He is the author of several
dozens of studies on Portuense Themes; Librarianship and Archivistics; Medieval Art and Archaeology
